A Springfield family awoke Thursday morning and found an arrow through the head of their sleeping dog. The dog named Cooner survived the shot. He was asleep on the porch. "He was in a lot of pain. He was yelping," said owner Pat Sparks. She and her husband, Don Sparks let the dog accompany them at their business. "We all love him," she said, adding that Sparks Roofing coworkers take turns taking care of him. After calling their vet, the Sparks family carefully pulled the arrow out of the dog's shoulder and ear.

The family's other dogs have been attacked or poisoned. They filed a report with Coopertown police who said they are tracking a suspect in the case.

In September, someone shot a stray dog in the head with an arrow in Nashville. The animal had to be euthanized.
