Florida, Guess Who's Voting?

Sexual Abuse of Animals is Animal Cruelty - Sign the Petition | Change.org

Sexual Abuse of Animals is Animal Cruelty - Sign the Petition Change.org

Targeting: Kathleen Rice (Nassau County District Attorney)

Started by: Stephanie Feldstein

In New York, tenants awoke to their landlord sexually abusing his dog. A veterinary exam revealed signs of trauma, including injuries to the dog's legs consistent with being restrained. The dog was taken into the care of shelter, and the landlord, Mitchell Marsicano was arrested.

Marsicano was charged with burglary and sexual misconduct. He could face up to 15 years in prison for the first charge and one year for the second.

The penalty for unlawfully entering a home that he owns is 15x stronger than violating a dog.

In a statement responding to this case, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said, "It's unimaginable to think that anyone could carry out such unspeakable acts of cruelty and violence on a defenseless animal."

Then why wasn't Marsicano also charged with animal cruelty? Aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony in New York, is defined as conduct which "is intended to cause extreme physical pain; or is done or carried out in an especially depraved or sadistic manner."

Bestiality should qualify as "depraved."

The reason bestiality needs its own laws is because sex with animals is sexual abuse, but it doesn't always result in visible physical suffering, and there's no way for an animal to testify to their emotional trauma, so it can be difficult to apply standard animal cruelty laws in some cases.

New York is ahead of the many states without laws addressing the sexual abuse of animals. But bestiality laws should be used to strengthen animal cruelty laws, not replace them, and, in this case, there were physical signs of trauma.

Ask the district attorney to make sure criminals like Marsicano are punished to the full extent of the law.

PETITION: Stop killing of brown bears in Bosnia & Herzegovina

Targeting: Dr. Radivoje Bratic (Ministarstvo poljoprivrede, šumarstva i vodoprivrede RS)
Started by: NOA Denmark

According to the info from the press agency, SRNA's website, the text announces the commercial hunting of brown bear, one of the rarest species in the country and the European region. Allegedely, because of the damage the bear make on buildings and lifestock. The bears are usually hunted from hunting stands where the animals are lured by a bait and then viciously killed. These bears are only guilty of being alive and they are worth more dead. http://www.drustvonoa.org/

Carrabelle man arrested after shooting black bear carrabelle, lanark, shooting - News - The News Herald

LANARK VILLAGE — A Franklin County man was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with killing a black bear after a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) investigator saw him shoot the animal with a bow and arrow.

Black bears are classified as a threatened species in Florida and are fully protected, an FWC news release said. There is no open season for the taking of bears.

Gene Strickland, 59, a dock builder and fishing guide from Carrabelle, was charged with one count of killing a black bear — a felony — and taken to the Franklin County Jail, according to FWC Investigator Eric Johnston. Strickland’s bow and arrow were seized as evidence.

Johnston said the 175-pound female bear was running about 50 feet from Strickland’s tree stand.
The bear was shot on private property near the St. James Golf Course at Lanark Village. Strickland is one of several hunters who hunt the property, the release said.

I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION AND HOPEFULLY A SEVERE FELONY SENTENCING!) THIS BASTARD NEEDS TO BE AN EXAMPLE... FLORIDA AND THE REST OF THE DEEP SOUTH) IS A BREEDING GROUND FOR HATE.

IF WE DO NOT LEARN TO CARE ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT AND FOR ALL OF THE CREATURES WE SHARE IT WITH, WE WILL NEVER LEARN TO CARE ABOUT EACHOTHER.

STARTING AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, ACTS OF HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY SUCH AS THIS CAN NOT BE TOLERATED IN A "CIVILIZED" SOCIETY. ANIMAL ABUSE AND ACTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AND THE CRIMES AGAINST NATURE CAN NOT GO UNPUNISHED OR IN THE END... WE ALL, WILL SUFFER. HORRIFIC AND BARBARIC ACTS OF TERROR AGAINST ANY SENTIENT BEING THAT GOES UNPUNISHED, DEGRADES OUR HUMANITY... WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN (HUMANE).

THE LAWS PROTECTING ANIMALS AGAINST CRUELTY AND ABUSE (BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL) NEED TO BE MORE VIGOROUSLY ENFORCED. THE PENALTIES NEED TO BE STRONGER. THERE IS NOTHING MORALLY OR SPIRITUALLY  POSITIVE OR ENLIGHTENING ABOUT PURPOSELY CAUSING HARM TO ANY LIVING SENTIENT BEING. THERE CAN BE NO ETHICAL JUSTIFICATION TO CAUSING THE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF THE HELPLESS.

Firefighters Watch As Home Burns: Gene Cranick's House Destroyed In Tennessee Over $75 Fee (VIDEO)

TO KNOWINGLY ALLOW THOSE INNOCENT, HELPLESS ANIMALS TO BURN TO DEATH. TO KNOW THAT AND CHOOSE NOT TO ACT.THERE IS ALSO THE CASE OF A BURNING HORSE BARN, IT TOO, HAD LIVING BEINGS (HORSES) TRAPPED INSIDE AND WAS ALLOWED TO BURN TO THE GROUND.

WELL AMERICA, IF YOU WANT LESS GOVERNMENT AND A REDUCTION OF REGULATIONS, THIS IS WHAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WILL LOOK LIKE. WELCOME TO THE RADICAL RIGHT-WING CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN TEA PARTY NATION WHERE "PUBLIC SERVICE" IS AVAILABLE BY "SUBSCRIPTION" ONLY.

THIS "CONSERVATIVE" POLITICS WANTS LESS GOVERNMENT UNLESS YOU ARE A WOMAN OR GIRL, WHO IS PREGNANT (OR HAS THE ABILITY TO BECOME PREGNANT), OR IF YOU ARE GAY, THEN, GOVERNMENT IS BIG... REALLY BIG.

ONE MAY WONDER EXACTLY WHAT IS "IT" THAT IS BEING "CONSERVED"?

I'VE READ (UNBELIEVABLE) COMMENTS AROUND THE WEB THAT SUPPORT THE TENN FIRE DEPT.'S DISGRACEFUL CULTURE AND AGREE WITH "SUBSCRIBED" PUBLIC SERVICES. SO WHAT "PUBLIC" SERVICE IS NEXT? THE POLICE DEPT, (OR SHERIFF)? PUBLIC EDUCATION?

THE FIRE DEPT WAS ALREADY ON THE SCENE AND THE NEIGHBOR (A "PAID" SUBSCRIBER) SPECIFICALLY ASKED THEM TO "PUT WATER ON IT". IT SHOULD NOT MATTER THAT THE MAN HAD NOT PAID, PERIOD. THE ANIMALS SHOULD'VE BEEN SAVED.

THE NARCISSISTIC, SPIRITUALLY RETARDED, SOCIOPATH MONSTERS, WHO LABEL THEMSELVES AS "CONSERVATIVE" WHO SUPPORT (IN)ACTION LIKE THIS, ARE TOXIN IN THE WELL OF HUMANITY. POLLUTING AND DISFIGURING OUR NATION'S MORAL INTEGRITY AND TAKING US ON A RED ROAD-TRIP TO ETHICAL BANKRUPTCY.

Digg - Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools

Digg - Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools

PS

I HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED A FEW COMMENTS TELLING ME THAT I AM "GOING TO HELL".

I DO NOT BELIEVE A SUPREME BEING WOULD REQUIRE HUMANS TO CREATE BULDINGS (SHRINE, CHURCH ECT). TO CONNECT. I FIND IT CREEPY THAT STRUCTURES ARE CREATED TO DISPLAY DEVOTION AND FRIGHTENING WHEN PEOPLE FORCE THEIR (PERSONAL) BELIEFS ONTO OTHERS.

BUT, IF GOING TO CHURCH (OR THE LIKE) MAKES SOMEONE WANT TO BE A BETTER HUMAN, PLEASE, POWER TO THEM!

PLEASE, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO FRIGHTEN ME INTO BECOMING A BELIVER OF YOUR FEAR-MONGERING "GOD". WHAT KIND OF "GOD" WANTS FOLLOWERS OUT OF FEAR?

UNLESS YOU, MR "ANONYMOUS" (AKA THE COWARDLY COMMENTATOR) ARE GOING TO TAKE ME THERE RIGHT NOW, DON'T WASTE YOUR BREATH! SAVE YOUR NEGATIVE ENERGY FOR SOMEONE WHO GIVES A CRAP.

I AM AN ETHICAL VEGAN. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS RIGHT TO PURPOSELY KILL (OR TORTURE!) A SENTIENT BEING FOR ANY SELFISH, SELF-SERVING PURPOSE. VIVASECTION, CONSUMPTION, RELIGION, CLOTHING, ENTERTAINMENT ETC. IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY, BUT I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE OTHERWISE. NO ONE HAS TO AGREE WITH MY CHOICE. ALL I KNOW, IS THAT I FEEL MORE CONNECTED TO LIFE BY DOING IT AND I WANT IT THAT WAY.

WITH THAT SAID, I ALSO DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE US CONSTITUTION SHOULD BE USED TO LEGALIZE ACTS OF TERROR.

TO BELIEVERS OF "MY GOD IS BETTER THAN YOUR GOD", THEY ARE POISON IN THE WELL, MENTALLY UNFIT AND UNSTABLE HUMAN BEINGS. UN-FIT FOR LIVING AMONGST THE REST OF SOCIETY. THEIR EXISTANCE, ONLY BEARS FRUITS OF FEAR AND HATRED.

THESE RELIGIOUS FANATICS WHO USE THIER "GOD" TO JUSTIFY EVIL, DO NOT BELONG AROUND INNOCENT SCHOOL CHILDREN OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER). I WILL GO EVEN FURTHER TO SAY THAT THEY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO REPRODUCE.

THAT'S RIGHT!

I SAID IT!

P O P U L A T I O N C O N T R O L.

APPARENTLY, WE CAN'T CONTROL OURSELVES AND OUR GROSSLY OVER-CROWDING AND OVER-CONSUMPTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES ARE BECOMING A BURDEN THE PLANET CAN NO LONGER WITHSTAND.

I DO NOT KNOW IF I BELIEVE IN A "GOD". AND MOST CERTAINLY, I DO NOT BELIEVE IN A "GOD" THAT DESIRES "KILLING", IF "GOD" IS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD "GOD", HOW CAN THE SUPREME BEING BE PLEASED BY THE "SACRIFICING" OF A HELPLESS CREATURE? KILLING IN THE NAME OF "GOD"? THAT IS A "GOD" OF DEATH... EVIL. A "GOD' FOR THOSE WHO ARE HATEFUL, WEAK, IGNORANT AND CRUEL.

Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools

Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools Rick's Blog

Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools
Press release:
House Bill 31, co-introduced by Representatives Brad Drake (R- Eucheeanna) and Greg Evers (R-Baker) today passed the House Policy Council Committee, its third committee of reference, advancing it toward a vote by the full Florida House of Representatives. Representative Evers presented an amendment to HB 31, which would prohibit affirmative acts of school districts and administrators that violate the First Amendment freedom of speech rights of students, teachers and school district personnel, including their freedom of religious speech.

The bill is designed to preempt future ACLU attacks on the First Amendment protections of freedom of speech, including religious speech, like the attack in Santa Rosa County that led to then-Pace High School Student Body President Mary Allen being censored and barred from speaking at her own high school graduation, as well as Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman being charged with criminal contempt of court for offering a blessing at an adults-only event.

“This bill is about so much more than school prayer or inspirational speech, it’s about protecting Floridians’ First Amendment rights,” said Representative Evers. “At a time when our freedoms are constantly threatened, it is of vital importance that we pass legislation that preserves our freedoms and values at all cost. If we can stop what happened to Mary Allen and the good folks at Pace High School from happening anywhere elsewhere in Florida, I feel that we have done something important and good.”

“I thank my colleagues in the House for passing this important bill out of committee, and I look forward to working to move it all the way through the process,” said Representative Evers. “This legislation has been a priority of mine since the day I got elected in 2001. And, I’ve heard from people in Northwest Florida and throughout the state, who believe, as do I, that it is important that Floridians be allowed to exercise their freedom of speech how they see fit, and not have others dictate to them what they can and cannot do or say.”

“We deeply appreciate the support of the Florida House and, especially of Representatives Evers and Drake in making sure that outside liberal forces with their own agendas do not quash the First Amendment self-expression rights of students and teachers,” said Mary Allen, a freshman at Florida State University who in May 2009 was the president of the Pace High School student body.

HB 31, relating to protection of school speech, prohibits district school boards, administrative personnel and instructional personnel from taking affirmative action that infringes or waives rights or freedoms afforded by First Amendment to United States Constitution.

Representative Evers currently represents Florida House District 1, which includes parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. He is a farmer and small businessman who was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2001 and was subsequently re-elected. Representative Evers has put his experience in agriculture and business to good use in the Florida Legislature and is proud of his legislative accomplishments on behalf of Florida’s critical agriculture industry, economic development, job creation and preserving and protecting Northwest Florida values including our Second Amendment rights and protections.

Most recently, he sponsored and passed legislation enabling Florida farmers to transport their farm equipment from field to field without the burden of additional government permits or fees; legislation creating tax incentives that enabled the Jay Oil Field to reopen, restoring numerous Northwest Florida jobs; legislation officially designating “In God We Trust” as the official motto of the State of Florida and legislation protecting the right of law-abiding citizens in Florida to have legal firearms secured in their automobiles in public parking lots.

—–Editor’s note:The Evers bill legalizes voodoo, a syncretic religion originating from the Caribbean country of Haiti, in Florida public schools. And keeps ACLU from preventing animal sacrifices on school grounds….or so it seems. Freedom of religion means all religions, right?

My Response to “Evers bill allows voodoo, animal sacrifices in Florida schools”

OMG!

WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

I CAN’T BELIEVE GREG EVERS IS A “REPRESENTATIVE” OF THE COUNTY I LIVE IN! EVEN MORE SO, I AM MORTIFIED THAT MY NEIGHBORING CITIZENS ELECTED SUCH A DISGUSTING AND DISGRACEFUL TOOL.

WHAT IS IT?

WERE EVERS AND BAKER (& THEIR SUPPORTERS) NOT GIVEN ENOUGH HUGS AS A KID?

HOW CAN ANYONE THINK THAT TEACHING CHILDREN THAT IT IS “OK” TO KILL NON-HUMAN ANIMALS VIA SACRIFICE?

HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT THAN TEACHING THEM TO BE LIKE LITTLE TED BUNDY OR A LITTLE JEFFRY DAHMER?

HOW DARE EVERS AND BAKER (& THEIR SUPPORTERS) USE THEIR MANIPULATIVE AND WARPED, SOCIOPATH INTERPRETATION OF THE US CONSTITUTION TO TEACH INNOCENT FLORIDA’S CHILDREN THAT IT’S OK TO BE A PSYCHOPATH AND TO FORCE RELIGIOUS BELIEF ONTO OTHERS!

If Representatives Brad Drake (R- Eucheeanna) and Greg Evers (R-Baker) are representative of the ethical bankruptcy and moral decay destroying our nation, our species… WE ARE (JUSTIFIABLY) DOOMED FOR EXTINCTION.

The ‘House Bill 31′ allowing non-human animal sacrifice is nothing more than a legalization of EVIL! Animal sacrifice? The torture and brutal slaughter of a helpless, defenseless animal will “teach” what exactly? That it’s perfectly LEGAL and socially acceptable to kill?

RELIGION BELONGS IN PRIVACY. NO ONE, YOUNG OR OLD, SHOULD BE FORCED TO LISTEN TO SOMEONE ELSE’S INTERPRETATION OF THE MEANING OF “GOD”. THAT IS WHY WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THIS RIGHT… I BELIEVE IT IS CALLED… “FREEDOM OF RELIGION”. THIS INCLUDES THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHICH ORGANIZED RELIGIOUS SECTOR TO BELONG (OR TO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE AT ALL), WITHOUT PERSECUTION.

Religious teaching (from ANY organized sector) has no place in PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Children are supposed to be at school to learn how to gain understanding of life. To learn how to figure things out, to hopefully one day, be an independant thinker and a contributing member of society.

Many children (nationwide) already have difficulty understanding the basic teaching of life (especially math and science). Courses such as History/Geography are supposed to be tools to help us EVOLVE….NOT continue to repeat the harmful/hurtful events of the past.

PHYS Ed is also as important in aiding developing little humans as intellectual studies. Children are able to learn how to take care of themselves physically and the added bonus? CHILDREN FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET ALONG – TOLERANCE.

EVERS AND BAKERS AND THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THEM, ARE SICK, DISGRACEFUL MONSTERS THAT ARE DARK STAINS UPON THE THE HUMAN RACE!

I find it appalling that the Constitution is being used to legalize cruelty, abuse, suffering and torture of living, feeling creatures. WHERE ARE (ALL) ANIMALS RIGHTS?

THIS IS NOT ABOUT “FREEDOM OF SPEECH” OR “RELIGION”.

WHAT’S NEXT? LEGALIZING “RELIGIOUS RIGHTS” TO(aka “tradition”,”culture”,”heritage” etc) PERFORMING FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION ON LITTLE GIRLS? SELLING CHILDREN INTO SLAVERY (EX ARRANGED MARRIAGE)?

HOW CAN ANYONE ARGUE THAT INFLICTING UNNECESSARY PAIN, SUFFERING AND/OR DEATH AGAINST ANY SENTIENT BEING BE JUSTIFIED?

FOR ALL SENTIENT BEINGS – PAIN AND SUFFERING IS UNIVERSAL. IT SHOULD NOT BE MORALLY (OR LEGALLY) ACCEPTABLE BY ANY SOCIETY/CULTURE, NATION/COUNTRY OR CONTINENT ON EARTH, THAT A HUMAN BEING CAN INFLICT PHYSICAL HARM (UNNECESSARY TO THE BEING’S OWN SURVIVAL) OR DEATH UPON ANOTHER JUST BECAUSE THEY WANT TO!

URGENT ALERT! PETITION: THE GREAT APES NEED YOUR HELP!

PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE (PCRM)

PETITION! Chimpanzees (ALL GREAT APES) Need Your Help!

Tell Congress to Enact Legislation! Please send the e-mail below that asks your representative to co-sponsor the Great Ape Protection Act (GAPA). This bill, known as H.R. 1326, would end invasive research on chimpanzees who remain in laboratories, release federally owned chimpanzees to permanent sanctuaries, and end federal funding for the breeding of federally owned chimpanzees, affecting more than 1,000 animals.

The Great Ape Protection Act will save taxpayers $20‐25 million annually.

The U.S. is the only nation in the world that is known to still use captive chimpanzees for large-scale invasive research.

Although chimpanzees are our closest genetic relatives, physiological differences make chimpanzees poor models for human health research.

Chimpanzees used in research suffer from post‐traumatic stress disorder and depression.

Illegal songbird trapping on Cyprus - CABS spring 2009 report

CABS Operations against bird trappers on CyprusThe Greek-Cypriot south of the new EU member state Cyprus has become a death trap for the birds which migrate across the Eastern Mediterranean.

Countless trappers set up their nets, and above all lime sticks, in almond and olive groves, in gardens and in the macchia in order to trap migrant song birds resting on passage. The main victims of the lime sticks are warblers and thrushes; but cuckoos, owls and other protected birds are also caught.

The trapped birds are destined for the pot, not infrequently in restaurants, where they are sold at a high price as delicacies.

Bird trapping has long been banned on the island the relevant legislation was indeed tightened up on accession to the EU in 2004 but the poachers are unimpressed and continue to break the law.

Some offenders scarcely bother to conceal their trapping sites, not least because large sections of the rural population have little awareness of their wrongdoing.

The police and other agencies are not idle; but they do not have enough personnel to effectively combat poaching.

The Lega Abolizione Caccia (League for the Abolition of Hunting) our most important Italian partner organisation has been active on Cyprus since 1999.

In several operations financed by CABS, the volunteer Italian conservationists have dismantled several thousand lime sticks and dozens of large mist nets.

From spring 2008 onwards a CABS bird protection camp will also be operated on the island.

Animal Concerns Community: [itemname]

An online petition has been created to help 10 tame black bears whose future is uncertain after being found during a drug raid. The provincial environment ministry has said if the animals can't learn to find food in the wild, they'll have to be exterminated.

That's led to the 'Save Bears Found in Drug Bust' online petition http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/959/062/842/

The petition asks that the bears be sent to a sanctuary and not be put down.

A facebook petition has also been created, named 'Help Save the B.C. Black Bears', which directs viewers to the petition.

BULLSH*T OF "MY palm oil: Credibility of green groups questioned"

"MY palm oil: Credibility of green groups questioned"

WHAT A CROCK! THIS IS THE POST/COMMENT I LEFT.

GREED VS NEED

From everything I have read here, the bottom line is? It's ALL about $.
These green NON-PROFIT environmental/animal rights groups would not have the financial & social backing that they do without being able to justify their agenda(s). WHY NOT ENLIGHTEN THE WORLD WITH WHAT IT IS EXACTLY THAT YOU ARE DOING (in detail) TO MAKE Instead of wasting time ranting on a blog about how horrible all those criminal like "Greenies" are, WHY NOT PROVIDE THE EVIDENCE THAT WHAT YOU SAY IS THE TRUTH?
THERE IS SOMETHING INNATELY SINISTER IN ANYONE BASHING THE TREE HUGGING, EARTH & ANIMAL LOVING, EQUALITY & JUSTICE SEEKING ACTIVISTS.

How can wanting a healthier planet be a bad thing? Protecting human & animal rights is dependant on environmental ethics.
If we choose NOT to save Earth's biodiversity, we will destroy ourselves and all of the (innocent) life we share our planet with.

WHY NOT POST MEDIA AND HAVE DOWN-LOADABLE DOCUMENTS OF INDEPENDENT STUDIES THAT LIVE UP TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS TRUE? A single photo says a thousand words and video documentaries can break down language barriers & are difficult to undermine.

WHEN IT COMES TO GLOBAL SOCIAL/ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ISSUES, IN ORDER FOR PEOPLE TO CARE, THEY MUST FIRST KNOW...that's why 'those' green NOT FOR PROFIT groups are so successful.

This Is Ecocide | The destruction of our planet's ecosystems

This Is Ecocide - The destruction of our planet's ecosystems

Ecocide - An introduction to ecocide

Today large scale habitat destruction, massive soil depletion, extensive deforestation lead to worldwide disruption of natural cycles and the irreversibility of extinction. Today instances of mass extinction occur with greater frequency, greater rapidity and greater impact than at any other time.

Each day 100 living species become extinct, 1,000 acres of peat bogs are excavated and 150,000 acres of tropical rainforest are destroyed. Each day, 2 million tons of toxic waste is dumped in to our rivers and seas, 22 million tons of oil are extracted and 100 million tons of greenhouse gases are released.

This destruction, damage and loss comes at an enormous cost.

A recent report for the United Nations has found that 3,000 of the world’s biggest corporations caused $2.2 trillion of ecocide in 2008. Read more here

Light A Virtual Candle - Help Raise Awareness of Canine Cancer

               How Do Animals Teach Gratefulness?

Dogs may not understand spiritual principles,
but I believe that they are spiritual beings
who instinctively know how to trust.

In memory of my my best friend, Petunia "Tuni" pup.
I hope she knows how much she was loved and that she will be greatly missed. I have lit this virtual candle my sweet girl and in honor of all, who have fought the good fight against canine cancer. My little girl gave that cancer hell! I wish I were be a strong as she was.

In time to come, I will be posting information and links about the prevention of canine cancer, current treatment options, treatment alternatives and other resources in the coming weeks.
I will also provide information about the definitive causes and possible causes of canine cancers.

I hope to raise awareness of the epidemic of canine cancer.

My beautiful punkin Tuni pup. You have taken a part of me with you. I miss you and I only hope that you know how much I love you.

How Our Cell Phones Kill Gorillas |

How Our Cell Phones Kill Gorillas // Current
In March, the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) announced that gorillas in the Congo may be extinct by the mid-2020s, a drastic change from its 2002 projection which had 10 percent of the original range surviving in 2030.

The culprits behind the demise of one of the world's brightest primates: poaching, logging, mining, the Ebola virus, and...cell phones.

Adam Hochschild's piece in the March/April issue of Mother Jones http://motherjones.com/toc/2010/03, describes how the Congo's vast natural resources are continuously pillaged to feed foreign interests to the detriment of locals, their environment, and now gorillas.

'Militias have seized large chunks of gorilla land and logged and mined it. They have done so because the illegal trade in timber and in metals such as gold and coltan -- used in cell phones -- generates between $14 million and $50 million a year for them.'
--- CNN reports

'This is a tragedy for the great apes and one also for countless other species being impacted by this intensifying and all too often illegal trade. Ultimately it is also a tragedy for the people living in the communities and countries concerned. These natural assets are their assets: ones underpinning lives and livelihoods for millions of people. In short it is environmental crime and theft by the few and the powerful at the expense of the poor and the vulnerable.'
--- Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of the UNEP

African Gorillas Face Future Extinction

... shame on us.

African Gorillas Face Future Extinction

Though most of our species in the more developed countries won’t even care about this, I feel compelled to report this tragedy of environmental disaster wrought by our lesser fortunate brethren in Africa specifically between the countries of Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda, all sites of genocides and the abuse of human rights in modern history.

There are multiple factors negatively affecting the population of African gorillas living in the Congo Basin. Of course, humans are one of them. Due to the violent militants and rebels ethnically cleansing their areas, it has forced thousands of refugees towards the wild, mainly the Congo Basin.

Refugee camps are in wild demand of any food especially the meat of an ape. Insurgents and militias further harm gorillas by aggressively encroaching into the wild to extract precious – and illegal – minerals along with much needed lumber cutting down trees and ruining habitats for gorillas.

To top it all off, the epidemic of Ebola, a deadly virus for both humans and apes, especially apes, which became known to the public due to the strange infections of monkeys in the U.S being is accelerating the rate of mortality for these gorillas. This virus that originates from the Ebola River near Congo spreads through things such as spit, or soil rarely through human contact. Consequently, gorillas with their habits and movement patterns fell victim to an Ebola epidemic in the late 1900’s worsening their immune system and killing thousands of these gorillas.

Think environment activists have time? Think again. Within the next decade, the gorillas in the Greater Congo Basin will completely disappear as activities such as mining and poaching continue to rapidly increase as demands for the end-products also increase.

Ninety percent of both infected gorillas and the natural habitats will decrease in the same timeframe of roughly ten to fifteen years according to the United Nations Environment Program, a surprise for those who had thought gorillas in the Congo Basin would lose the same amount of their habitat by the year 2030.

A nightmare for environment activists, the lack of gorillas in the region of Central Africa will have significant impacts on the levels of their community, ecosystem and ultimately the biosphere leading to other environmental casualties as well.

Unlike the cases of whales, tigers, and others being terribly cut down by humans in the animal kingdom, the decreasing population of gorillas in Central Africa (already around the number of seven hundred gorillas, a gloomy statistic when compared to the previous population in the 20th century) is even harder to prevent. You can’t exactly hunt down militants in politically unstable areas in Africa, and you can’t exactly hand out vaccination to a line of gorillas to prevent their deaths in the Ebola outbreaks.

The rangers at these wildlife sites are nearly helpless as well due to the lack of outside support for Interpol’s Environmental Crime Program and such other programs. More than 180 rangers have already been killed by those who illegally garner resources at the expense of the species of gorillas.

There simply is no room for optimism only reality.

It’s a tough job to repopulate a species but even tougher to do so under these harsh conditions.
